CHRIS WERGE


At age 25 the Cape Town based singer-songwriter Chris Werge has steadily been making his mark in the South African music scene. After launching his debut album, ‘Exposure’ in January 2015 he went on to open for James Blunt in February at The Grand Arena, GrandWest. With this momentum Chris began gigging throughout Cape Town leading to a second place award at a local ‘Anything Acoustic’ competition hosted by Rolling Audio at Spiro’s in Hout Bay.
In 2015 Chris auditioned for The Voice South Africa 2016. After being selected as a part of the top 105 contestants Chris was flown to Joburg to perform at the ‘Blind Auditions’ where he performed the song ‘Royals’ by Lorde. His performance saw Bobby Van Jaarsveld turning and selecting him to form part Team Bobby. After his exit from the show Chris went on to release his first music video for his single ‘On My Mind’ which has been play-listed on radio stations across the country.
The last twelve months have seen Chris gigging full-time at venues around South Africa. Some of his highlights in 2016 have been opening for Daniel Baron & Richard Stirton at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre; as well as performing at the Nu-Breed Music Festival alongside Matthew Mole, Majozi, Josh Wantie, The Johnson Twins (Al Bairre) & Sam Burger (Opposite The Other). He currently holds residency gigs at some of the top hotels and venue’s in Cape Town.
Huge noise was made around the country when Chris announced the release of a new song. Fans, musicians and celebrity personalities including Matthew Mole, Richard Stirton & Top Billing’s Chris Jaftha are just a few of the names that took to social media to support the countdown to the release of the Voice SA 2016 contestant’s new tune using the hashtag #ChrisWergeTellMe
